Goodbye to the $1,550 a month Social Security disability threshold: The updated amount in 2025
The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced in October the 2025 cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for Social Security benefits. The annual boost to the amount sent to beneficiaries is intended to help monthly payments keep pace with rising prices.
While the good news is that inflation has slowed it meant that for 2025 benefits will get an increase of 2.5%, which is smaller than that applied to benefits recipients got in 2024.

How much is the maximum amount of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) in 2025?
The maximum monthly amount that Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) non-blind beneficiaries can receive in 2025 will be $1,620. That is an increase of $70 from the 2024 cap.
On the other hand, blind SSDI beneficiaries will be entitled to a maximum of $2,700 in 2025 compared to $2,590, the most that was paid per month in 2024.
For SSDI beneficiaries that are trying to return to the work force, the “trial work period” earnings threshold will go from $1,110 in 2024 to $1,160 in 2025. That is the maximum amount that you can earn per month and still get your full Disability payment from the SSA during the 9 month period.
