How much exposure do mutual funds have in Polycab India, Havells India, Finolex Cables?
The shares of leading wires and cables manufacturers Polycab India, RR Kabel, KEI Industries, Havells India, and Finolex Cables plunged on Tuesday after Aditya Birla Group company UltraTech Cement announced its entry into the industry. Mutual funds held around 8.56 crore shares of these five leading companies in their portfolios, with a total market value of Rs 21,874 crore as of January 2025.
Havells India
The shares of Havells India dropped by 9% to a day’s low of Rs 1,402 on the BSE. Around 35 mutual funds held 2.89 crore shares of Havells India, with a market value of Rs 4,539 crore as of January 31, 2025. UTI Mutual Fund held the highest number of shares, approximately 46.14 lakh, with a market value of Rs 722 crore. Nippon India Mutual Fund held 35.31 lakh shares, followed by ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, which held 33.93 lakh shares in its portfolio.
PPFAS Mutual Fund held only 500 shares of Havells India in its portfolio, with a market value of Rs 0.08 crore as of January 31, 2025.
KEI Industries
The shares of KEI Industries dropped by 20% to a day’s low of Rs 3,036 on the BSE. Mutual funds collectively held around 1.74 crore shares of KEI Industries, with a total market value of Rs 7,019 crore.

Finolex Cables
The shares of Finolex Cables dropped by 7% to a day’s low of Rs 837 on the BSE. Mutual funds held around 1.53 crore shares of Finolex Cables in January, with a market value of Rs 1,538 crore. Around 19 AMCs had exposure to this stock, of which Nippon India Mutual Fund held the highest number of shares in its portfolio. The fund house had 49.60 lakh shares, with a market value of Rs 496 crore as of January 31, 2025.
SBI Mutual Fund, the largest mutual fund based on assets managed, held 55,688 shares in its portfolio. HSBC Mutual Fund and HDFC Mutual Fund held around 38.65 lakh and 29.89 lakh shares, respectively, of Finolex Cables in their portfolios. Mirae Asset Mutual Fund and Navi Mutual Fund held the lowest number of shares, with 564 and 22 shares, respectively, in January.
Polycab India
The shares of Polycab India dropped by 16% to a day’s low of Rs 4,833 on the BSE. Mutual funds owned 1.21 crore shares of Polycab India, with a market value of Rs 7,340 crore. Out of 31 mutual funds with exposure to this stock, Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund held the highest number of shares, around 44.09 lakh, followed by DSP Mutual Fund, which held 17.54 lakh shares in its portfolio.
SBI Mutual Fund held around 82,289 shares worth Rs 49.68 crore at the end of January. Baroda BNP Paribas Mutual Fund held only 128 shares.

RR Kabel
The shares of RR Kabel dropped by 15% to a day’s low of Rs 943 on the BSE. Mutual funds owned around 1.13 crore shares of RR Kabel, with a market value of Rs 1,436 crore. Around 15 mutual funds had exposure to this stock, of which ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund held the highest number of shares, approximately 42.40 lakh. Kotak Mutual Fund held 9.96 lakh shares worth Rs 122 crore.
Bandhan Mutual Fund held around 869 shares in January, followed by Navi Mutual Fund, which held 93 shares in its portfolio.
UltraTech, an Aditya Birla Group company, is a behemoth in the cement industry, but its decision to diversify into wires and cables took investors by surprise. As part of its strategy to become a holistic building solutions provider, the company has committed Rs 1,800 crore in capex for this venture, aiming for commissioning by December 2026.
