The actress revealed that her commitment to authenticity led her to insist on full-frontal nudity in a key scene in the Academy Award-winning movie.
Although director Martin Scorsese initially suggested she could wear a robe if she felt uncomfortable, Robbie stood her ground.
“That’s not what she would do in that scene,” she explained, per the Daily Mail. “The whole point is that she’s going to come out completely naked—that’s the card she’s playing.”

“My managers made me redo my audition tape five times because it wasn’t good enough,” she admitted.
In her final audition, Robbie shared that she hesitated before choosing to slap Leonardo DiCaprio in a pivotal scene instead of kissing him as she had initially considered.
“I thought, I could kiss Leonardo DiCaprio right now, and that would be awesome,” she said. “I can’t wait to tell all of my friends this. And then I thought… nah. And just walloped him in the face.”
She continued, recalling: “It was dead silence for what felt like an eternity but was probably three seconds. Then they just burst out laughing. Leo and Marty were laughing so hard, they said ‘that was great.’ I was thinking, I’m going to get arrested, I’m pretty sure that’s assault, battery.”

“I’ve always thought of directing as a privilege, not a right,” she shared. “Sometimes when I hear someone say they’re going to direct, I think, ‘Well, have you earned that yet?’ That’s certainly how I feel about myself.”
Reflecting on her current position, the “Suicide Squad” actress acknowledged the incredible learning experience she’s had working with some of the most renowned directors in the industry, including Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, and Wes Anderson.
“I’m in this unique position where I get to work with the best directors alive today,” Robbie said. “And every time I get this front-row seat to how they do it. It’s so tempting to keep acting because I keep getting to watch and learn from the very best.”
While she has no immediate plans to direct, Robbie expressed that the idea remains a strong desire.

“Yes, I would love to direct. It’s not that I feel a need to do it soon, because like I said, every day that I produce, every day that I act, every day that I’m on set, I’m still learning and I know it’s going to help me be a better director,” she noted. “But I can’t imagine not ever taking that step at some point.”

“I’m still saying that,” Robbie responded when podcast host Ben Mankiewicz expressed confusion over the film’s reception.

She continued, “I love it. I don’t get it either. I know I am biased because I am very close to the project and I obviously believe in it, but I still can’t figure out why people hated it. I wonder if in 20 years, people are going to be like, ‘Wait, “Babylon” didn’t do well at the time?’ Like when you hear that ‘Shawshank Redemption’ was a failure at the time, and you’re like like, ‘How is that possible?'”
Robbie, who portrayed the ambitious Nellie LaRoy in “Babylon,” shared that her experience working on the film was overwhelmingly positive, particularly in collaborating with director Damien Chazelle, known for “La La Land.”
