Stocks jolted out of their late summer slumber on Wednesday, boosted by fresh data on U.S. business activity and hopes of blockbuster Nvidia earnings.
The S&P 500 rallied 1.1% Wednesday, its best day since late June.
The index snapped a streak of 36 consecutive days without a 1% gain, its longest such stretch since the 42 trading day streak ending in September 2021.
Wednesday’s move is the first 1% gain of the quarter, with the index on pace for the fewest such moves since the third quarter of 2018, when there weren’t any 1% gains.
