Stock Market News: S&P 500 and Dow Hit Record Highs to Close Out a Stellar November
Two of the three blue-chip indexes set new closing highs on Black Friday, the final session of what has been a blowout November.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 192 points, or 0.4%, to hit a record 44,915 points. The S&P 500 climbed 0.6% to 6,032 points.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite was also in the green, rising 0.8%. It’s trading just short of the all-time high it hit on Nov. 11.
Volume was thin in a truncated post-Thanksgiving session, with markets only for open roughly a half-day, but the closing-bell records still feel like a fitting end to the month.
Donald Trump’s win in the Nov. 5 presidential election has traders feeling euphoric, and data highlighting the economy’s resilience has helped power stocks to more gains.
The Dow had its best month in more than two years, and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq both also rose by about 6%.
Bonds also rallied. The yield on 10-year Treasury fell to 4.204%, and the yield on 2-year slid to 4.188%.
