Stock Market Today: Dow futures dip as Middle East tensions rattle risk assets
How are stock-index futures trading:
S&P 500 futures are down 0.3%.
Dow Jones Industrial Average futures are off 0.3%.
Nasdaq 100 futures are falling 0.3%.
On Tuesday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 173 points, or 0.41%, to 42,157, the S&P 500 declined 54 points, or 0.93%, to 5,709, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 279 points, or 1.53%, to 17,910.
U.S. stock index futures are again under pressure as concerns about a wider conflict in the Middle East lingers.
Fears that Iran’s bombardment of Israel may create a response that ultimately compromises oil supplies sees the price of Brent crude gain another 1.5% to trade around $76 a barrel, a one-month high.
Investors are also wary of looming labor market data that will impact the Federal Reserve’s thinking on the pace of interest rate cuts.
The ADP survey of private sector job creation will be published Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. Eastern. The all-important nonfarm payrolls report will be released on Friday before the market open.
“A subdued tone has hit trading as markets brace for further repercussions from the Middle East crisis,” says Susannah Streeter, head of money and markets at Hargreaves Lansdown.
