WoW: The War Within – How To Increase Profession Knowledge Fast
The revamped WoW profession features introduced in the Dragonflight expansion were brought over to The War Within, alongside the Profession Knowledge system. Gaining Profession Knowledge lets you improve your various Specialization Talents, improving the quality of your crafts, unlocking new recipes, and increasing your chance to find rare materials.
It’s important to get Knowledge Points and increase Profession Knowledge fast to maximize your potential as a crafter in The War Within, and there are a few ways you can get a jump start. This guide provides a few methods to get Profession Knowledge fast, and is generally sorted from most to least lucrative.
The Artisan’s Consortium Sells Three Knowledge Point Books
Three Books For Each Profession, Increasing In Price
In the eastern area of Dornogal you will run into a familiar group from the Dragonflight expansion: the Artisan’s Consortium. Look for Lyrendal, the Artisan’s Consortium Quartermaster, and open his inventory to see that they sell three Knowledge Books for each profession you have.
Though each of these Profession Notes sold by the Artisan’s Consortium grants 10 Knowledge Points, they cost increasing amounts of Artisan’s Acuity. If you really want to build Profession Knowledge fast, and don’t mind sacrificing some Artisan’s Acuity to get ahead, get to the Artisan’s Consortium Quartermaster as soon as you can.
- The first book costs 200 Artisan’s Acuity
- The second costs 300 Artisan’s Acuity
- The last book costs 400 Artisan’s Acuity
If you want to get all three for a huge 30x Knowledge Points, you will have to pay 900 Artisan’s Acuity. You will get 50 Artisan’s Acuity refunded upon consuming each Notes, reducing the real cost to 750 Artisan’s Acuity.
Farming Renown Unlocks Profession Knowledge
But Be Careful – And Check Each Reward Track
There are four major factions to earn Renown with in The War Within, and each of them offers players rewards for increasing their standing with them all the way up to Rank 25.
Around Renown Level 12, three of the four factions reward players with the ability to purchase Notes for their profession that grant 10 Knowledge Points for 50 Artisan’s Acuity.
- At Renown Level 12 with the Council of Dornogal, Alchemists, Blacksmiths, Enchanters, and Tailors can purchase their profession Notes from the Council of Dornogal quartermaster.
- At Renown Level 12 with the Assembly of the Deeps, Miners, Engineers, and Scribes can purchase their profession Notes from the Assembly of the Deeps quartermaster.
- At Renown Level 14 with the Hallowfall Arathi, Jewelcrafters, Leatherworkers, Skinners, and Herbalists can purchase their profession Notes from the Hallowfall Arathi quartermaster.
The Severed Threads faction does not directly reward the ability to purchase Profession Notes for PK in their renown track. However, in the City of Threads area of Azj-Kahet, you can purchase an item that grants 10 Knowledge Points for 565 Kej, the zone’s unique currency. These are sold by Profession Trainers in the zone, who can be tracked on your mini-map to locate them more easily.
Profession Knowledge Items In Treasure
World Treasures, Disturbed Dirt, And Profession Treasures
When traveling across the world, pay attention to your mini-map for the Treasure icon. There are world treasures, which have a chance to drop a Profession Knowledge item, Disturbed Dirt, which will sometimes drop a world treasure-like reward, and Profession Treasures. World Treasures and Disturbed Dirt tend to drop items that yield one or two Knowledge Points on use.
Be sure to zoom your mini-map out completely to scan the widest range for Treasure. Your mini-map
should
automatically track Treasure, but if you don’t see anything, check what you are currently Tracking in the top left.
There are two Profession Treasures for every zone, so if you have two Professions, you should be able to find four Treasures that always drop a Profession Knowledge item. These are arguably the fastest ways to increase Profession Knowledge in WoW The War Within, as each of these Profession Treasure locations yield +3 Profession Knowledge. If you find both of them in each of the four zones, you will gain an easy 24 Profession Knowledge.
Craft New Recipes & Gather New Materials
Every New Craft Or New Material Grants A Knowledge Point
Whenever you craft a new item for the first time, you will gain a single Knowledge Point. When you first pick up a profession, and while leveling, this is one of the easiest sources of PK if you are efficient with your crafts.
Until you hit max level, there really isn’t a point to crafting the same things over and over again, or crafting stronger items for leveling with augments and improvements. Instead, focus on crafting every single new Recipe at least once to accumulate a huge amount of Knowledge Points by the time you hit 80.
If you have a
Gathering profession like Herbalism
or Mining, you will gain one Profession Knowledge every time you harvest a new type of Material, including all modified Materials (like Irradiated Herbs or Rich Ores).
Weekly Profession Quests & Crafting Orders
Easy Sources Of Profession Knowledge Quest Rewards
Every Profession is able to take on a Weekly Profession Quest that always rewards a small amount of Knowledge Points upon completion. The Weekly Quest for all Crafting professions can be picked up from Kala Clayhoof, a representative of the Artisan’s Consortium in eastern Dornogal. The Gathering profession Weekly Quests can be picked up from your respective class trainers.
- For Crafting profession weekly quests, you must complete Crafting Orders. You will get 2x Knowledge Points for completing Crafting weekly quests.
- For Gathering professions, you must bring the quest giver a set number of the requested herbs. You will get 3x Knowledge Points for completing Gathering weekly quests.
You can also sometimes gain Knowledge Point items by completing certain Patron Crafting Orders, which are essentially NPC Crafting Orders. Hover over each Order to see what the rewards will be, and double-check what the required materials are (and which ones you must contribute) to see if the cost is worth it.
Some of these NPC Crafting Orders can be incredibly costly to fulfill, but they do count towards your Crafting profession weekly quest progression.
Consuming Weekly Inscription Treatises
One Profession Knowledge, Once Each Week
Players with the Inscription profession have a unique way to increase Profession Knowledge: Treatises. These tradable items can be crafted with relatively cheap materials and can be commissioned via the Crafting Order system. You can’t trade these items directly or get them on the Auction House, you must put in a Crafting Order for them.
You can only use these items once each week, and each Treatise will reward one Profession Knowledge. But over the course of a year, that’s a huge 52 points, so if you plan to stick with your professions long-term, you might as well get a head start and start putting in orders for these consumables early.
