U.S. stocks set for higher open as strong earnings boost market sentiment: Dow Jones, S&P, Nasdaq, Wall Street Futures
Earnings optimism supports pre-market gains
U.S. stock futures pointed to a firmer open on Tuesday as investors looked to recover from the previous session’s decline, with upbeat corporate earnings encouraging buying across several sectors.
Market sentiment improved after a series of better-than-expected quarterly reports, prompting traders to return to stocks following recent weakness.
3M, GM and Novartis lead pre-market movers
Among the early gainers, 3M (NYSE:MMM) advanced more than 7% in pre-market trading after reporting second-quarter earnings and revenue ahead of expectations while raising its full-year outlook.
General Motors (NYSE:GM) also attracted buying interest after delivering quarterly results that surpassed analyst forecasts and increasing its 2026 financial guidance.
Meanwhile, Novartis (NYSE:NVS) traded higher after the Swiss pharmaceutical company reported second-quarter results that exceeded market expectations.
Technology stocks also provided support, with Nasdaq 100 futures rising approximately 1.2% ahead of the opening bell.
Investors await major technology earnings
Trading activity could remain restrained despite the positive start, as investors await a busy week of earnings from several of the market’s largest technology companies.
Results from Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL), IBM (NYSE:IBM) and Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) are expected later this week and could provide fresh insight into artificial intelligence spending and broader corporate demand.
Rising oil prices remain a concern
Gains in equity markets were tempered by another sharp increase in crude oil prices.
U.S. crude futures climbed about 2% as military exchanges between the United States and Iran continued, adding to concerns that higher energy costs could keep inflation elevated and complicate the interest-rate outlook.
Wall Street ended lower on Monday
The major U.S. indexes initially rallied on Monday before reversing course as investors reassessed geopolitical risks and interest-rate expectations.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 307.16 points, or 0.6%, to 51,839.26. The S&P 500 declined 14.41 points, or 0.2%, to 7,443.28, while the Nasdaq Composite slipped 12.17 points, or 0.1%, to 25,508.07.
Housing stocks led Monday’s declines as rising Treasury yields pressured interest-rate-sensitive sectors, while pharmaceutical, biotechnology, transportation and healthcare shares also weakened. Software stocks, however, outperformed the broader market.
Separately, the Conference Board reported that its Leading Economic Index declined 0.2% in June after increasing 0.1% in May, slightly weaker than economists had expected.
