Tech stocks today: Shares climb after rocky week
Tech stocks climbed higher Friday after a rocky week that saw SpaceX (SPCX) and AMD (AMD) post earnings that failed to impress Wall Street’s lofty expectations and Google (GOOG, GOOGL) announced major changes to its AI division.
SpaceX stock climbed higher in early trading, while Google and AMD fell slightly.
Google said on Wednedsay DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis is transitioning to a new role as chair of DeepMind and chief scientist for all of Alphabet. DeepMind CTO and Google chief AI architect Koray Kavukcuoglu will become senior vice president for DeepMind and report directly to Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai.
The company is also losing chief scientist Jeff Dean, who is founding a new company called Discovery Loop with Google senior fellow Sanjay Ghemawat.
Elsewhere, Meta (META) was ordered to pay $567 million into a mental health fund for teens in New Mexico, after the social media giant lost one of a number of lawsuits alleging its apps cause harm.
