Ontario Premier Doug Ford Spars With Trump As Trade War Escalates: 'Kiss My A**'

Ontario Premier Doug Ford escalated his feud with President Donald Trump on Monday, telling the president to “kiss my ass” as the U.S. and Canada spiral deeper into a messy trade war.

“I have a lot of real estate on my ass, so he has a lot of room to kiss my ass,” Ford, who leads Canada’s most populous province, told reporters.

Trump has launched a wave of aggression at Canada after trade negotiations collapsed over the weekend, imposing a 50% tariff on $20 billion worth of Canadian goods that include agricultural products, construction materials and manufacturing parts. The president warned on Monday that he would also increase tariffs on all cars and trucks to 50% starting Jan. 1.

“He underestimates Canada. We’re all in,” Ford told The Associated Press earlier Monday, saying Canada should be prepared to cut off electricity and critical minerals to the U.S. in retaliation. “Up here, we’re at a fever pitch, everyone’s in for an economic war. They know they’re going to have to sacrifice.”

Trump hit back at Ford over what he said was “bluster” in a Truth Social post – calling him Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s flunky “who is better known as the less charismatic, intelligent and overall unimpressive brother of the late, great Rob Ford.” Rob Ford served as a conservative businessman and Toronto’s scandal-plagued former mayor before he died in 2016.

“Remember, much of the Electricity, Oil, and Gas that Canada gets is transported through the U.S.A,” Trump wrote. “Someone should get these clowns to ‘fall in line’ or, the consequences for Canada will be far WORSE!”

Asked about Trump’s post, Doug Ford said he does not respond “to a dictator like President Trump” — describing him as “the type of guy in school that would take your lunch money one day, take your toque off your head the next day and then steal your running shoes.”

“I’m not gonna take lessons off President Trump. He’s the last guy that I would take any lessons off. And it’s about Team Canada,” Ford told reporters, calling him the “king of bankruptcies.” “We’ll see how this goes, but, he wants to put pain on Canadians? We’ll leverage every bit of pain we possibly can on Americans.”

This week is not the first time Ford and Trump have sparred. After Trump announced auto tariffs against Canada last year, Ford promised to “inflict as much pain as possible to the American people without inflicting pain on the Canadian population.” And like last time, the premier stressed that the costs of Trump’s tariffs will fall to the American people.

“I’ve always said I love the American people, I still stand by that statement,” Ford said Monday.

“Your own people, President Trump, don’t even like you,” he continued. “And they’re gonna speak loud and clear when it comes to the midterms, and if I was allowed to, I’d be down there doorknocking.”
