Official Social Security schedule: SSA confirms three payments in October 2026 for these beneficiaries
Some Social Security beneficiaries in the United States will receive three payments in October 2026. The shift is due to the Social Security Administration schedule, which includes two Supplemental Security Income deposits and one for other benefits.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) distributes benefits for retirees, survivors, family members, spouses, ex-spouses, and individuals receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). It also manages Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments.
Under normal circumstances, some beneficiaries receive two payments in a single month—specifically, those who receive both SSI and another Social Security benefit. In October 2026, this group will receive an additional deposit due to a scheduling adjustment for November’s benefit.
People who receive SSI alongside another Social Security benefit will be the ones receiving three deposits in October.
The first payment will arrive on Thursday, October 1, for Supplemental Security Income. The following day, Friday, October 2, they will receive their regular Social Security benefit.
The third deposit will arrive on Friday, October 30. Although it lands in October, it represents the SSI payment for November.
The reason lies in the calendar: November 1, 2026, falls on a Sunday. Because the SSA does not issue SSI payments on weekends, the deposit is moved up to the preceding business day, Friday, October 30.
As a result, following the October 30 deposit, the next SSI payment will arrive on Tuesday, December 1.
The Social Security Administration schedule sets the following payment dates for October 2026:
- Thursday, October 1:
Supplemental Security Income benefits.
- Friday, October 2:
Benefits for beneficiaries who began receiving payments before May 1997.
- Wednesday, October 14:
Payments for beneficiaries with birth dates from the 1st to the 10th of the month.
- Wednesday, October 21:
Payments for beneficiaries with birth dates from the 11th to the 20th of the month.
- Wednesday, October 28:
Payments for beneficiaries with birth dates from the 21st to the 31st of the month.
- Friday, October 30:
Supplemental Security Income benefits for November.
This calendar shift does not mean beneficiaries are receiving an extra benefit. The October 30 deposit is simply an early payment for the following month.
The Social Security Administration currently uses direct deposit and the Direct Express Debit Card to deliver monthly benefits. Payments by mail were discontinued in September of last year.
For this reason, anyone still relying on paper checks must update their payment information to continue receiving their benefits.
