When the first falls on a weekend or holiday, as Nov. 1 does this year (a Sunday), the payment goes out on the preceding business day. So SSI recipients will get both October’s and November’s payments in October.

Social Security benefits for people who filed before May 1, 1997, and for those who get both Social Security and SSI are paid on the third of every month. Since Oct. 3 is a Saturday, those beneficiaries will be paid Friday, Oct. 2.
