US Stock Market Today: S&P 500 Futures Dip As Cooling Wages Temper Growth Hopes
The Morning Bull – US Market Morning Update Tuesday, Oct, 6 2026
US market futures are a touch softer this morning, with E-mini S&P 500 contracts down about 0.1%, as investors weigh a cooler US jobs report against stubborn factory sluggishness and brighter global demand signals. Factory orders in August barely moved, up just 0.1%, which points to cautious business spending on equipment and big projects. The unemployment rate rose to 4.2% in September even as payrolls added 406,000 jobs, and average hourly pay increased only 0.1% to US$37.81, or 3% over the year. The key question now is whether slower wage gains ease pressure on interest rate sensitive areas such as tech and real estate, while a softer jobs backdrop challenges smaller, domestically focused companies.
With wage growth cooling while inflation pressures reappear in many PMIs, it makes sense to focus on companies that already generate solid cash and trade at sensible valuations through 27 high quality undervalued stocks
