The Social Security Admin is sending out three payments to some beneficiaries in October: Here’s who qualifies
As it does every month, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will distribute benefits throughout October to beneficiaries of the Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs.
In most cases, the agency issues one payment per month to each beneficiary. Under certain circumstances, however, some people may receive two or even three payments in the same month.
This October, some beneficiaries will receive two payments, while others will collect as many as three, with the third arriving at the end of the month.
Who gets a third payment at the end of October 2026?
Each month, some beneficiaries receive two payments: one from SSI and another from a Social Security program, such as retirement, survivor, family or disability benefits.
While these recipients typically receive two payments a month, they will get three in October: two SSI payments and one regular Social Security payment.
For these beneficiaries, the first SSI payment was issued on Thursday, October 1. Their second payment of the month, their regular Social Security benefit, was sent on Friday, October 2. The second SSI payment will be issued at the end of October, on Friday 30.
The SSI benefits issued on October 30 represent an advance payment. Under the SSA’s official schedule, SSI benefits are normally paid on the first day of each month. If that date falls on a weekend or federal holiday, however, the payment is moved up to the previous business day.
In this case, November 1 falls on a Sunday, so the payment is being sent two days early. Because it is an advance payment for November, SSI recipients will not receive another SSI payment until Tuesday, December 1.

Social Security and SSI payment schedule for October 2026
According to the SSA’s official payment calendar, October 2026 benefits are being distributed as follows:
- October 1: SSI benefits for October
- October 2: Social Security benefits for recipients who began receiving Social Security before May 1997/also claim SSI
- October 14: Social Security benefits for recipients born between the 1st and 10th of any month
- October 21: Social Security benefits for recipients born between the 11th and 20th of any month
- October 28: Social Security benefits for recipients born between the 21st and 31st of any month
- October 30: SSI benefits for November
How does the SSA send out benefits?
The SSA now issues monthly benefits only through direct deposit or the Direct Express debit card program.
Benefits were previously available by paper check as well, but that payment method was phased out in September of last year. As a result, affected beneficiaries must update their payment method to continue receiving their benefits.
