Rep. Roger Williams to Newsmax: Trump Must Tout Strong US Economy

Rep. Roger Williams, R-Texas, told Newsmax on Wednesday that President Donald Trump should use his San Antonio rally tonight to remind Texans the economy is thriving on tax reform and deregulation.

Williams, who chairs the House Small Business Committee and runs a car dealership in Weatherford, Texas, spoke hours before Trump was set to appear at Freeman Coliseum with Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton, the state attorney general, and Carlos De La Cruz, the GOP candidate in Texas’ redrawn 35th Congressional District.

“The economy is really good,” Williams said on “Wake Up America,” pointing to tax reform, deregulation, and farm support as administration wins. “We’ve got low unemployment. We’ve got great opportunity,” he added, arguing Trump’s challenge is making voters feel the gains.

“The economy is good. He [Trump] is going to remind people what that means.”

Williams pointed to his signature manufacturing bill as evidence.

In December 2025, the House passed his Made in America Manufacturing Finance Act, raising Small Business Administration (SBA) loan limits for qualifying small manufacturers from $5 million to $10 million. The measure, which passed on a bipartisan vote, awaits Senate action.

The bill’s Senate companion is led by Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, chair of the Senate Small Business Committee. The House legislation aligns with the SBA’s broader “Made in America Manufacturing Initiative,” an agency push to cut regulations and expand capital access for domestic producers.

Williams, a third-generation dealer with dealerships across the Dallas-Fort Worth market, said his own lots gauge the broader economy. He credited Texas’ lack of a personal income tax and “can-do spirit” for drawing manufacturers to the state.

“Business is good,” he said.

On fuel costs, Williams acknowledged voters feel the pinch at the pump but defended the administration’s posture toward Tehran.

“We’re where we are because we need to be in Iran,” he said, pointing to U.S. action against Iranian nuclear development.
