Michigan GOP Senate candidate says the trade war between Canada, US has to end
WASHINGTON (TNND) — Michigan GOP Senate candidate Mike Rogers said Wednesday that the trade war between the U.S. and Canada has to end.
“Prices are too high and Canada is not our enemy,” he wrote in a post on X. “We need to end the tariff war — now. In the Senate, I’ll bring both parties together to lower costs and put Michigan families first.”
Last month, Canada placed 15% to 50% tariffs on U.S. goods in retaliation for U.S. placing tariffs on Canadian goods.
“Our tariffs are necessary to protect our workers, protect our companies and our community,” Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said during a speech. “We can’t let American goods into Canada tariff-free while they charge our companies to export.”

In the past, Rogers has been critical of Canada, specifically when President Donald Trump slammed the country for how it has handled wildfires over the summer.
“Canada must be held accountable for endangering Americans, and I will work with your Administration to ensure they are!” he posted on X in July.
In the past few months, GOP candidates running for office have distanced themselves from Trump as midterms approach due to high gas prices.
Rep. Ashley Hinson, the Senate GOP nominee in Iowa, said in a social media post last month that the war “needs to be brought to a successful and immediate end.”
