I Started Investing in Stocks After All This Time
Starting this year, I have fully resumed stock investing.
At first, it was a series of trial and error, but recently I have been able to make a profit of around 100,000 yen per month.
That said, I have only just begun.
Honestly, I don’t know if I will be able to earn the same amount next month.
In this note, I intend to record the things I notice in my daily trading, my own investment philosophy, and how I approach money.
The reason I started stock investing
The first time I invested in stocks was around 2018.
At the time, I invested in the US stock NVIDIA and was able to make a decent profit.
However, it is a world where assets can increase or decrease by hundreds of thousands of yen overnight.
While it is nice to make a profit, there are times when it decreases significantly. As I watched those price movements, I became afraid.
And so, I decided to step away from the stock market for a while.
Back then, it was an era before Tesla and NVIDIA became the massive corporations they are today.
What if I had held onto them instead of selling back then?
The other day, I had ChatGPT calculate the value based on the number of shares I held at the time, and it came out to a staggering amount.
It was hundreds of millions of yen.
Of course, I deeply regretted selling them (laughs).
Return to a turbulent market
2026 might be a turbulent year for the stock market.
The stock prices of semiconductor and AI-related companies have risen significantly, showing price movements that feel like a bubble.
In the month I returned to stock investing, I was able to make a profit of several tens of thousands of yen from US semiconductor-related stocks.
However, the following month, they plummeted.
In the end, I had to cut my losses by several tens of thousands of yen.
The month after that didn’t go as planned either.
However, as I continued to trade, a style that suited me began to emerge little by little.
Currently, I mainly trade domestic stocks, and recently I have been able to generate a realized profit of over 100,000 yen per month.
Should I take risks or not?
I am, first and foremost, a side-hustle trader.
I am a company employee in my 40s with a family. I also have a mortgage.
Therefore, there is a limit to the risks I can take.
I do not engage in margin trading. I do not buy stocks with borrowed money.
This is one of the rules I have set for myself.
On the other hand, I believe it is also true that there are things you cannot gain without taking risks.
In stock investing, even with cash transactions alone, gains and losses in the hundreds of thousands of yen can occur.
That is precisely why it is important not only what you buy, but when you buy, how much you buy, and when to do nothing at all.
I think the stock market is like the ocean.
There are calm days, and there are rough days.
The important thing is not to swim against the waves, but to read the flow of the tide.
Interest rates, exchange rates, the economy, and world affairs.
While being conscious of those major trends, I change my portfolio to suit the environment at any given time.
That is the kind of investment approach I keep in mind.
What I want to write about in this note
I am neither an investment professional nor an economist.
I am just an ordinary office worker.
Even so, observing the daily market, thinking about it, and making decisions with my own money provides more learning than I ever imagined.
In this note, I will not be recommending stocks or sharing surefire winning strategies, but rather writing about the mindset I use to make my investment decisions.
A profit of 100,000 yen per month is just one milestone.
Someday, I want to be able to use my money more freely for the things I want to do.
I have a dream like that.
I don’t know what will happen from here on out.
For now, I intend to gradually put my own investment philosophy into words.
