Second month of swing trading. September profit was 25,470 yen
This article looks back at the results of my swing trading in September.
I started swing trading in late July/August, so September marks about my second month.
I am attempting swing trading with a budget of 1 million yen.
I will summarize the results for September and what I felt after actually doing it.
September profit was 25,470 yen
My swing trading profit for September was
25,470 yen
.
Since I am using a budget of 1 million yen, a simple calculation shows a profit of about 2.5%.
In August it was 38,120 yen, so I was unable to exceed my August profit.
However, just because the profit decreased, I don’t simply think that “September was bad.”
In September, the number of trades was lower than in August.
-
August: 20 trades
-
September: 14 trades
I feel that because the number of trades decreased, there were fewer trades that resulted in large profits.
September was centered on trading Sumitomo Electric Industries
In September, almost everything I took profit on or cut losses on was Sumitomo Electric Industries.
I repeated trades several times while watching the price movements, but looking back, I was quite focused on Sumitomo Electric Industries.
What I felt during that time was
“If I narrow down the stocks, I might start to understand the price movements little by little.”
That is what it comes down to.
Of course, looking at a chart doesn’t mean you can predict future stock prices.
Even so, by looking at the charts of the same stocks over and over, I feel like I’ve gradually started to understand the quirks of their price movements.
The profit came because the “timing of the purchase” was good
Looking back at the trades that made a profit in September, I think that more than stock selection, the timing of the purchase being good was a major factor.
I was able to buy at a time when the price would rise afterward, which led to profit.
When I first started swing trading, I feel like I was only worried about “whether it would go up after I bought it.”
But recently,
“Is now the right time to buy?”
I’ve become able to think about that a little bit too.
I’m still learning, but developing this kind of intuition little by little is one of the good things about starting swing trading.
I want to be able to wait for more profit
On the other hand, there are also future challenges.
That is,
being able to wait a little longer for more profit.
When I have unrealized gains, there are times when I take the profit, thinking, “I’ve made a profit, so I’ll sell here.”
Of course, locking in profit itself is not a bad thing.
However, when I look at the chart later, I sometimes think, “If I had waited a little longer, I might have been able to get a little more.”
That is a challenge for the future.
I still don’t really know how long is the right amount of time to wait.
That is precisely why I want to find my own profit-taking line while actually trading.
The problem of not being able to move funds due to unrealized losses as well.
And there is one more thing that is on my mind.
Currently, Obayashi Corporation and Sanrio are in an unrealized loss position, and my funds are tied up there.
Since I am working with a limited budget of 1 million yen, being in a state where I cannot move my funds is more concerning than I had anticipated.
In swing trading, if the stocks you bought do not move as expected, the funds available for the next trade decrease accordingly.
I also want to think about “what to do when an unrealized loss occurs” from here on out.
This is one of the challenges for October.
October will also be a month of learning.
The profit for September was 25,470 yen.
It did not reach the 38,120 yen of August, but since it is my second month of swing trading, I feel like I am gradually seeing a style that works for me.
In particular,
-
narrowing down the number of stocks to some extent
-
observing the habits of price movements
-
being conscious of the timing to buy
-
not being too impatient to take profits
-
thinking about how to use limited funds
I want to keep these points in mind moving forward.
I still do not have a “this method will win!” strategy.
Within the budget of 1 million yen, I will continue to learn while actually trading in October.
I wonder what the results will be like next month.
While I am of course happy to see my profits increase, I hope to gradually discover my own personal approach as I continue trading.
