Cathie Wood’s ARK Invest funds sold 30,050 shares of Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) on Thursday, Oct. 15, generating approximately $7.7 million based on the reported transaction value, as investors continue to assess the costs and potential returns of the company’s artificial intelligence investments.
Amazon plans to spend about $220 billion on capital expenditures in 2026, with much of the investment directed toward AI infrastructure, data centers and related technology. The spending outlook has raised questions about how quickly these investments will translate into sustainable cash generation.
The company’s latest quarterly results, however, showed continued operating growth. Revenue increased 20% year over year to $200.6 billion in the second quarter, while operating income rose 43% to $27.5 billion, according to its July 30 earnings release.
Amazon Web Services, the company’s cloud computing division, delivered one of the strongest contributions. Revenue at AWS climbed 37% to $42.2 billion, marking its fastest growth in 18 quarters as demand for cloud and AI services expanded.
Despite the spending concerns, Wall Street remains positive on Amazon. ARK’s sale alone does not establish a change in its broader investment view.
