Social Security is paid out on Wednesday, October 21: who receives benefits tomorrow?
Across the U.S., certain Social Security recipients are to get October’s benefits tomorrow, as the Social Security Administration (SSA) continues the program’s payment schedule for this month.
Who gets Social Security tomorrow, Wednesday, October 21?
Of the more than 71 million beneficiaries of the Social Security scheme, many are paid on the second, third or fourth Wednesday in each month, depending on their birthday.
Tomorrow is the third Wednesday in October, so Social Security is to be distributed to recipients born between the 11th and 20th of any month.
October 2026’s complete three-Wednesdays cycle:
- Born on 1st-10th of any month: paid on Wednesday, October 14
- Born on 11th-20th of any month: paid on Wednesday, October 21
- Born on 21st-31st of any month: paid on Wednesday, October 28
NB: If you receive Social Security based on someone else’s employment record, the SSA uses the other person’s date of birth.

What other Social Security payment dates are there in October?
Tomorrow is the third of four payment dates on this month’s Social Security schedule. Early this month, the SSA paid two groups of recipients who are issued their benefits outside of the three-Wednesdays cycle:
- Friday, October 2: Social Security sent out to dual beneficiaries and certain long-term recipients
On Friday, October 2, this month’s Social Security was paid to recipients who began claiming their benefits before May 1997. Friday 2 was also October’s Social Security distribution date for recipients who simultaneousy claim Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
A benefit for certain low-income, low-resource individuals, SSI differs from Social Security as it is needs-based. Unlike Social Security, eligibility for SSI does not depend on an applicant’s work history. Worth a monthly average of $735.86, SSI was sent out for October on Thursday 1.
How much are Social Security benefits?
- Retirement: $2,034.54
- Disability: $1,499.41
- Survivor: $1,636.31
Average monthly benefit, according to SSA statistics.
2027 COLA confirmed
In a bid to protect beneficiaries’ purchasing power, the SSA announced last week that it will increase Social Security and SSI payments by 3.6% in 2027.
Across all Social Security beneficiaries, this translates into a rise of around $70 on the current average payment, which stands at $1,943.15 per month.
How does the Social Security Admin make benefits payments?
- Direct deposit
Social Security recipients can supply the SSA with their bank-account information on the online “my Social Security” tool.
- Direct Express
Money can be loaded onto the Direct Express Card, a special debit card for federal disbursements. Sign up at 1-800-333-1795 or 1-800-772-1213, or at a Social Security office.
