Social Security Agency Schedules 2 Rounds of Payments Starting Oct. 28
Two rounds of federal benefit payments are scheduled for this week, with regular Social Security benefits going out Wednesday, and an early Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment arriving Friday for a separate group of recipients.
SSI payments ordinarily arrive on the first of the month. Because Nov. 1 falls on a Sunday, November’s payment will instead be issued on Friday, Oct. 30. This is an advance payment for November, rather than an additional benefit.
SSI recipients already had an October payment scheduled for Oct. 1. Their next regular payment after Oct. 30 is scheduled for Dec. 1.
The Oct. 28 disbursement is the final regularly scheduled Social Security payment for October. It covers eligible beneficiaries whose birthdays fall between the 21st and 31st of any month.
Those receiving both Social Security and SSI follow a separate schedule, with Social Security generally paid on the third and SSI on the first. Their October Social Security payment was scheduled for Oct. 2 because Oct. 3 fell on a Saturday.
The adjustment is expected to add an average of $75 a month to retirement benefits. It is tied to changes in a federal consumer price index.
Personalized benefit notices will become available online starting in late November. Beneficiaries who have not enrolled in paperless notices will receive their notices by mail in December.
“Social Security will implement this cost-of-living adjustment for 76 million Americans, giving them greater financial stability,” the agency’s Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano said. “Under President Donald J. Trump, Social Security is delivering better, faster, higher-quality service for the American people.”
