Social Security benefits are paid out on Tuesday, November 10: who gets a check?
Millions of Social Security beneficiaries are to get an ahead-of-schedule check next week, as the Social Security Administration (SSA) begins the program’s three-Wednesdays payment cycle for November.
Why the early Social Security payment?
Across the U.S., most Social Security recipients get their benefits on the second, third or fourth Wednesday in each month, depending on their date of birth.
In November, however, this payment cycle is due to kick in a day earlier than usual. This is because the month’s second Wednesday falls on Veterans Day, a federal holiday that honors members of the U.S.’s armed forces.
Beneficiaries born from the first to 10th of any month, who would typically be paid on Wednesday 11, will instead receive their November money on Tuesday 10.
The three-Wednesdays cycle will then revert to its usual schedule on November 18 and 25.
November 2026’s full three-Wednesdays cycle:
- Born on 1st-10th of month: Tuesday, Nov. 10
- Born on 11th-20th of month: Wednesday, Nov. 18
- Born on 21st-31st of month: Wednesday, Nov. 25
NB: If you claim Social Security benefits based on someone else’s work history, the SSA uses the other person’s birthday to determine your designated Wednesday.

What other Social Security payment runs are there in Nov. 2026?
Next Tuesday is the second of four payment dates on the SSA’s Social Security schedule for November.
This week, the agency issued benefits to two groups of recipients who get their money outside the three-Wednesdays cycle:
- Nov. 3: Social Security paid to dual beneficiaries and some long-term recipients
On Tuesday, November 3, this month’s Social Security benefits were distributed to people who began claiming their monthly payments before May 1997.
In addition, Tuesday 3 was November’s Social Security payment date for beneficiaries also signed up to the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) scheme.
A need-based benefit for certain low-income, low-resource Americans, SSI is separate to Social Security, despite also being administered by the SSA.
Unlike Social Security, claimants do not have to earn work credits to qualify for SSI benefits. Worth an average of $735.86 per month, SSI was distributed for November on Friday, October 30.
Social Security benefits – average monthly amounts:
- Retirement: $2,034.54
- Disability: $1,499.41
- Survivor: $1,636.31

How much is 2027’s COLA raise?
In an attempt to protect beneficiaries’ purchasing power, the SSA announced last month that it will increase Social Security and SSI payments by 3.6% in 2027.
Across all Social Security beneficiaries, this translates into a raise of around $70 on the current average payment, which stands at a monthly $1,943.15.
How does Social Security pay out monthly benefits?
- Direct deposit
Beneficiaries of Social Security payments can provide the SSA with their bank details using the online “my Social Security”portal.
- Direct Express
Benefits can be paid onto the Direct Express Card, a special debit card for federal disbursements made to recipients without a bank account. Sign up for Direct Express at 1-800-333-1795 or 1-800-772-1213, or at a Social Security office.
