Why India needs a structured intervention for proper e-waste disposal
As we transition into the next decade, it is both encouraging and exciting to see that India is posed for a significant increase in the sales of gadgets and electronics. A recent study indicates that this sector is expected to grow at an annual rate of 5.93% from 2024 to 2029, which presents a remarkable opportunity for all of us involved in this industry.
However, it is essential for us as consumers to consider what happens to these gadgets once they reach the end of their lifecycle. Frequently, they are either discarded traditionally or sold to e-waste collectors. This is an issue that we must address collectively.
According to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), India has witnessed a staggering 163% increase in electronic waste, especially from screens, computers, and small IT devices. This increase ranks among the highest globally and poses a significant challenge for our country.

How pure is your gold? Understanding gold purity levels
When it comes to gold, purity is key. The highest purity gold, known as 24 karat (Kt), has a fineness of 999. However, it’s not quite 1000.
Why? Gold begins to oxidise when it touches air, preventing it from being completely pure. Additionally, achieving 100% purity is nearly impossible due to the inherent impurities in metals. Here’s a breakdown of gold purity levels:24 Kt Gold (999 fineness): This is considered the purest gold available.22 Kt Gold (916 fineness): Contains 91.6% gold and is the most common purity used in Indian jewellery.20 Kt Gold (833 fineness): Comprises 83.4% gold, often used for lower-cost jewellery.18 Kt Gold (750 fineness): Contains 75% gold, popular for its durability and affordability.

An unstable world craves stability; America’s ugly election offers none
The fast-approaching US presidential election is taking place against an extraordinarily chaotic global backdrop. For those who haven’t been paying attention, the world is catching fire.
Two major wars are raging on two continents, pitting important US allies — Israel and Ukraine — against long-time US adversaries Iran and Russia. Meanwhile, an increasingly tense and potentially even larger third conflict simmers between America and its only world power rival, China. Fueling that toxic dynamic, China, Russia and Iran are pooling weapons and war-making tech. It is a heady and disorientating cocktail.
Since the 2020 US election, America’s historic enemies have bonded, the great nation’s standing in global esteem is stooped, and it looks increasingly hobbled by an ugly political polarisation at home.
