Republicans bullish on keeping House, setting agenda
The makeup of Congress is coming into view, with just a handful of races yet to be called, but the House majority is still not settled.
Still, Republican leaders have been increasingly expressing confidence they’ll keep the House and work with the Senate to secure major priorities — including a budget reconciliation package with tax and oil and gas drilling provisions.
Rep. Richard Hudson (R-N.C.), chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee, predicted on a call with members that the party is on track to get at least to 218, POLITICO reported, citing people on the call.
And Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) took a victory lap, saying the election was a clear mandate for the GOP. “This is the most consequential Congress in history,” he said.
