DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — Dothan City Schools Superintendent Dr. Dennis Coe announced on Wednesday that he plans to retire next year.
“Over the past several years, our team has contributed greatly to the vast number of accomplishments we have demonstrated,” Dr. Coe said in a letter provided to WDHN. “It has been an honor for me to serve in this capacity. However, I feel it is time to prepare the torch for another leader.”

Coe says he plans to remain in the position until his contract expires in June 2025 and will help with the power transition.
Coe has served in public education for over 35 years, with five years at DCS.
In his letter, Coe cited several “improvements” to the school system while he has been superintendent, such as renovated classrooms and campuses, additional SROs at each school, and increased enrollment.
“We have demonstrated unprecedented improvements in test scores, facilities, finances, safety, transportation, technology, food services, health and well-being, and athletics,” said Coe. “I am very proud of everything we have done to make this district much better than it was when we started.”
