Wall Street Sees Average Trading Volume Ahead of Thanksgiving

Total composite volume, which includes the NYSE, Nasdaq, NYSE American and NYSE Arca exchanges, was 5.07 billion shares traded through noon ET, which is in line with this year’s daily average through noon, according to Dow Jones Market Data. The average through noon on a Wednesday is only 5.04 billion. That said, trading activity has been elevated as of late—today’s action through noon represents the lowest volume since Nov. 4.

The Dow was down 72 points, or 0.2%, while the S&P 500 was down 0.5%. The Nasdaq Composite was down 1.1%. The Russell 2000 was up 0.1%.
