Energy is Thursday's top-performing sector as oil prices climb
Energy stocks were the best performers on the S&P 500 Thursday as prices of U.S.-traded crude oil and natural gas climbed.
As a whole, the sector was up 1.2% in midday trading, according to FactSet data. That sent shares of the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF up 1.3%.
Shares of every company included in the ETF were trading higher, led by a 6.5% jump in Texas Pacific Land Corp. and a 2.8% jump in shares of Devon Energy Corp.
Energy giants like Chevron Corp. and Exxon Mobil were also trading higher, with Chevon up 1.7% and Exxon up 0.2%.
U.S.-traded crude-oil futures were up 2.6% in recent trade, while natural-gas futures gained 3.9%.
