US Stock Market: Dow Jones surges 486 pts, Nasdaq reclaims 18,550; Microsoft jumps 3% to $401

US Stock Market Today, Dow Jones, S&P 500, Nasdaq: Wall Street shares registered strong gains on Monday—with the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) reclaiming the psychologically important 43,000 mark—as investors hoped for earing of trade tensions between the US and its partners. Most sectors enjoyed buying interest, with material, consumer discretionary, industrial and technology stocks being at the forefront of the upmove, though energy shares faced selling pressure.

The market shrugged off jitters emanating from the ongoing trade tensions witnessed in the past few sessions given US President Donald Trump’s aggressive stance on the matter and fears of reciprocal tariffs.

A White House communication that the US President had agreed to delay tariffs on some auto tariffs on Canada and Mexico brought some relief to Wall Street.

Among index heavyweights, Microsoft shares led the gains in the technology basket, rising 3.2 per cent to end at $401 apiece.

At the end of the session, here’s where the three main gauges stood:

• DJIA: up 485.6 points, or 1.1 per cent, at 43,006.6
• S&P 500: up 64.5 points, or 1.1 per cent, at 5,842.6
• Nasdaq Composite: up 267.6 points, or 1.5 per cent, at 18,552.7
