‘Oh… S**t!’: 'Daily Show' Trump Trade War Joke Takes A Very Dark Turn
“The Daily Show” host Michael Kosta on Thursday thought he’d spotted “the only silver lining” in the “pointless” trade wars that are being launched by President Donald Trump.
“At least we’re only fighting with Canada and Mexico. You know, if you’re going to pick a fight, pick a fight with two sissy countries you can beat. Right? Right? Right?” joked Kosta.
The comedian, though, then turned to a social media post this week from the Chinese Embassy in the U.S. that read: “If war is what the U.S. wants — be it a tariff war, a trade war, or any other type of war — we’re ready to fight till the end.”
“Oh … shit,” said Kosta. “Uh, China. China don’t play. They’re like, ‘If you got beef, we got broccoli, bitch. Let’s go.’”
“Listen, Donald, Canada and Mexico are one thing, but please don’t piss off China,” he urged the president. “I know you wrote ‘The Art of the Deal,’ but they wrote ‘The Art of War,’ remember?”
