Dustin Poirier reveals dream walk-out plans ahead of UFC 318 retirement fight
Dustin Poirier might ditch his usual anthem for his UFC retirement fight against Max Holloway.
The former UFC interim lightweight champion has made the journey to the Octagon more than 30 times since his promotional debut in 2011. UFC 318 on July 19th will serve as Poirier’s final fight on the world’s biggest stage, a trilogy coming full-circle in more ways than one against BMF Champion Max Holloway.
Up 2-0 on Holloway in their series, Poirier spoiled Holloway’s UFC debut at featherweight in 2013 before beating him again nine years later at lightweight in a five-round war at UFC 236, where ‘The Diamond’ finally touched gold.
Dustin Poirier was Holloway’s first opponent in the UFC and now ‘Blessed’ returns the favor by being his last.
It’s a very special occasion for Poirier in New Orleans, fighting in his home state of Louisiana—which calls for a send-off like no other.
Dustin Poirier says he’d walk out with Lil Wayne for retirement fight
Last summer at UFC 302, we nearly saw Poirier retire following a hard-fought title bout against champion Islam Makhachev.
Poirier didn’t leave New Jersey with the belt but instead lots of love, walking out to a much-requested mashup of Rihanna’s ‘Diamonds’ sang by the late Willie Spence and ‘The Boss’ by James Brown, which is synonymous with the fighter after walking out to the song for so many years.
Poirier considered the same mashup for his retirement fight before proposing a different walk-out song altogether with rapper Lil Wayne by his side.
“My first fight in the UFC, when I fought Josh Grispi, I walked out to Lil Wayne,” Poirier said on The Ariel Helwani Show.

“If Lil Wayne was to walk me out in New Orleans, I’ll walk out to Lil Wayne in my last flight.
“Switch-up to James Brown,” Poirier added.

Dustin Poirier’s song choice if Lil Wayne walks out with him
Poirier has walked out to ‘The Boss’ for countless UFC fights, willing to turn back the clock if he’s accompanied by New Orleans native Lil Wayne, the state’s most famous rapper with 13 studio albums and over 100 million records sold worldwide.
Once a guest on Wayne’s podcast, Poirier says he has not yet contacted the rapper about walking out with him at UFC 318.
Should the stars align, Poirier knows just the song for the BMF title fight…

“I walked out in my debut against Josh Grispi [to] ‘Drop The World,’” Poirier continued.
“So, if he does ‘Drop The World’, I’ll come out to him in my last fight.
“If he sees this, hit me up Wayne,” Poirier said.
