Sensex Today | Stock Marekt Highlights: The Sensex fell 156 points to close at 80,641, while the Nifty ended 82 points lower at 24,380. The pressure was far more visible in the broader markets, with the Nifty Midcap index plunging over 1,240 points, or more than 2%, to end at 54,436. The Nifty Bank index also bore the brunt of the sell-off, shedding 648 points to close at 54,271.
However, weakness in PSU banks stood out sharply, driven by Bank of Baroda’s weak Q4 performance. The PSU Bank index slumped 5% in response. CG Power also disappointed, falling over 6% after its headline Q4 numbers came in below estimates. Cummins India lost 5%, tracking a negative readthrough from the global parent’s results, while CAMS dropped 5% after the management struck a cautious tone on FY26 growth.
Some stocks, however, bucked the trend. CCL Products surged 18% following its Q4 results, marking its biggest single-day gain in four years. Godrej Agrovet rose nearly 4% after Kotak Institutional Equities upgraded the stock to ‘Buy’. Exide Industries recovered from intraday lows to end in the green, helped by positive management commentary. Polycab India also closed nearly 2% higher following a strong Q4 performance.
On the downside, Indian Hotels declined over 6% as investors booked profits post earnings, while HPCL, MGL, and Paytm fell in the range of 3–6% ahead of their quarterly results.
