China to continue to share AI dividends with fellow developing countries: FM
Chinese Foreign Ministry
The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that China will continue to share artificial intelligence (AI) dividends with fellow developing countries, and promote AI to better serve global development, as it opened the second Workshop on AI Capacity Building in Beijing on Monday, with participants from nearly 40 countries and international organizations.
Asked about information on the workshop, Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the ministry, said that the workshop is a concrete action to implement the Global AI Governance Initiative, the UN Resolution on Enhancing International Cooperation in Capacity-Building of Artificial Intelligence, and the AI Capacity-Building Action Plan for Good and for All.
China advocates fair and inclusive development of AI, and acts as an active champion, practitioner and pioneer of international cooperation in AI capacity-building, and China believes that digital dividends should not become digital hegemony, and intelligent revolution should not expand digital divide, the spokesperson noted.
“We will continue to uphold the philosophy of extensive consultation and joint contribution for shared benefit, enhance communication and cooperation with all parties, stay committed to providing public goods for the international community, share AI dividends with fellow developing countries, and promote AI to better serve global development,” Lin said.
China has been actively enhancing its role in global AI governance and cooperation. To bridge the AI and digital divides, especially to help the Global South benefit equitably from AI developments, China in September 2024 proposed the AI Capacity-Building Action Plan for Good and for All, and called on all parties to step up investments in AI capacity-building, according to the ministry.
A side event of the Group of Friends for International Cooperation on AI Capacity-Building is held at the UN headquarters in New York on May 6, Fu Cong, China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, said that capacity-building has long been a cornerstone of global AI governance, and when it comes to AI capacity-building cooperation, China not only leads with initiatives, but also with actions.
