Churchill Living plans for eight Wigginton retirement homes
Churchill Living has applied to build eight cottages in The Village, Wigginton, which would include the demolition of a bungalow on the site to make way for the proposed development.
The eight two-bedroom homes with gardens in the new scheme on a 0.18 Hectare site would be arranged in two blocks, made up of two and one-and-a-half storey buildings.

Four cottages would face The Village and the others would face Churchill’s 45-apartment development from where access to the eight parking spaces on the new plot would be gained.
The height and spread of the cottages are “designed to harmonise with the surrounding built environment”, according to design documents issued with Churchill’s application to City of York Council.
Each property would have small front gardens and private gardens at the back, and plans said “appropriate distances are maintained with the adjacent properties, including the Churchill Living Development.”
Planning documents said the land became available in July last year and was purchased a month later by Churchill Living.
As reported by The Press, in 2022, the company applied successfully to build the 45 apartment development for older people next door, following an appeal against City of York Council.
At the end of March this year, The Press reported on a petition against demolition plans for a 19th century historic building on the site planned for the eight cottages, which is not in a conservation area nor has listed status.
The petition received 472 signatures and claimed demolishing the building would “represent an historic loss to the village and alter its landscape forever” and added that the village had a “surplus” of retirement properties currently for sale.
