Social Security is sending out payments of $2,000 on average today, Wednesday, June 18: discover who’s getting a check
Millions of Social Security retirement recipients are set to get their latest monthly check.
Today – Wednesday, June 18 – the U.S.’s Social Security Administration (SSA) is to distribute the next batch of benefits on this month’s payment schedule.
The SSA is also scheduled to issue Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and survivor benefits today.
Who’s getting a Social Security check on Wednesday, June 18?
Of the nearly 70 million recipients of retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits in the U.S., most are paid on one of three Wednesdays each month.
Each beneficiary’s designated Wednesday is determined by their date of birth.
Today, the SSA is to send out benefits checks to recipients whose birthday falls on the 11th to the 20th of each month.
This payment run comes after June’s three-Wednesdays schedule kicked off on the 11th, when checks were issued to beneficiaries born in the first 10 days of each month.
Wednesday payment schedule – June 2025:
- Weds, June 11: Beneficiaries born on 1st to 10th
- Weds, June 18: Beneficiaries born on 11th to 20th
- Weds, June 25: Beneficiaries born on 21st to 31st
Who gets their check outside the three-Wednesdays schedule?
If you started receiving retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits before May 1997, you are typically paid on the third of each month, regardless of their date of birth.
What’s more, beneficiaries of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) – a separate SSA scheme for low-income individuals who are over 65 or have a disability – normally get their check on the first of each month.
If you claim both SSI and any of the SSA’s retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits, you generally get the former on the first and the latter on the third.
However, as June began on a Sunday, this month’s SSI checks were sent out ahead of schedule: payment was brought forward to the nearest working day, which was Friday, May 30.
Non-Wednesday recipients: June 2025 payments
- Fri, May 30: SSI recipients
- Tues, June 3: Social Sec. beneficiaries since pre-May 1997
If a dual recipient: SSI paid on May 30, Social Security paid on June 3
