Sensex, Nifty 50 recover; Auto stocks lead gains, HCL Tech, Tejas Networks, Rallis, Tata Tech react to Q1 show
Equity benchmark indices staged a mild recovery on Tuesday after falling for four trading sessions, boosted by dip in retail inflation, optimism on potential RBI rate cuts and steady foreign capital inflows.
Sensex traded 399.34 pts or 0.49 per cent positive at 82,652.80 as at 1.05 pm (close to intraday high of 82,743.62), and Nifty 50 was up 131.15 pts or 0.52 per cent to 25,213.45.
Smallcap outperformed midcap index with 0.91 per cent increase. Midcap index rose 0.67 per cent. The volatility index was down 3.21 per cent to 11.60.
On the sectoral front, all indices mirrored positive sentiment with auto, realty and healthcare indexes leading the chart with 1-2 per cent gain.
Top gainers & losers intraday
Among the Sensex pack, Hero Motocorp, Sun Pharma, Bajaj Auto, Wipro and M&M lead the gainers, while HCL Tech, Eternal, HDFC Life, SBI Life, Tata Steel and Asian Paints were major laggards.
Shares of HCL Tech, Tejas Networks, Ola Electric and Tata Technologies were among those that reacted to Q1 numbers.
At the time of writing, 1,994 stocks had advanced on the National Stock Exchange, while 757 declined, out of a total of 2,835 stocks traded.
CEAT, Gillette, Force Motors, EID Parry, Godfrey Phillips, and Rallis were among the 75 stocks that hit a 52-week high, while Tejas Networks and 15 others traded at a 52-week low.
Additionally, STL Tech, Websol Energy, and 73 other stocks hit the upper circuit, while 43 stocks hit the lower circuit.
Midcap & smallcap movers
In the midcap basket, Tata Elxsi, BSE, Biocon, Bandhan Bank, Escorts and HDFC AMC soared 3-4 per cent. Ola Electric, Mankind Pharma, NMDC, IDFC First Bank and Nykaa declined 1-4 per cent.
Under the smallcap segment, Anant Raj rallied 7 per cent. CAMS, Swan Energy, PGEL, Natco Pharma and RK Forge gained 3-6 per cent. Tejas Networks, Inox Wind, Welspun Corp, CreditAccess and Reliance Power depreciated 2-6 per cent.
On the BSE, Waaree Renewable, STL Tech, Midhani and Anant Rah rallied 7-12 per cent, and JP Power, Tejas Networks, Ola Electric and Cartrade Tech tanked 4-7 per cent.
