Eagles' Saquon Barkley Discusses Bitcoin, Cryptocurrency and 'Financial Freedom'
Philadelphia Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley is the highest-paid running back in the NFL, and he’s made a commitment to securing his wealth off the field.
Barkley spoke to Boardroom about how his involvement with Bitcoin and cryptocurrency helps make him feel more confident in his financial future.
“I think crypto creates financial freedom,” Barkley said. “The sense of ownership for me is just educating myself on money, educating myself on the way I can create financial freedom. It’s been super important to me. I’d be lying, saying that I’ve got it all figured out. You’ve just gotta learn, you gotta learn and have the right people surrounding you. It’s been a fun ride for me.”
Last month, Barkley appeared on a panel at Coinbase’s State of Crypto Summit and discussed his crypto journey. In 2021, he accepted endorsement money in Bitcoin with an eye toward the future and securing his long-term financial health. He also discussed the importance of financial literacy among athletes.
Barkley signed a two-year, $41.2 million contract extension earlier this offseason, making him the NFL’s first running back ever to earn over $20 million per year. If he can lead the Eagles to another Super Bowl title, it can be expected that another bump in salary will be coming his way in no time.
