Social Security quietly rolls out another change for recipients
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Social Security Administration (SSA) has launched a redesigned homepage aimed at making it easier for millions of Americans to access benefits and services online.
The new SSA.gov homepage, announced this week, emphasizes self-service tools and simplifies navigation for users who want to manage their benefits without visiting a field office.
According to the SSA, the updated design highlights the “my Social Security” portal, where users can sign up or log in to view benefit estimates, apply for retirement or disability benefits, check application status, or request a replacement Social Security card. These features are now more visible and easier to find.
A new “Life Events” section guides people through major milestones such as retirement, disability, or the loss of a loved one, offering resources for each situation, the SSA added.
The homepage also improves access for employers, representative payees and other third-party users who rely on SSA services.
The move is the latest in a series of changes the SSA has made recently to streamline services. Starting Tuesday, Sept. 30, it will also stop mailing paper checks to recipients.
