Changes could be coming for public employee retirement plans in Mississippi
Mississippi is rolling out a tier five in the public employee retirement system.
Mississippi (WTVA) – If you are a public employee in Mississippi or know someone who is, there is a big change on the horizon that could impact retirement plans for decades to come.
Starting March 1st, Mississippi is rolling out what’s being called tier five in the public employees retirement system. It’s the newest retirement tier and it’s bringing some big changes.
Under this new tier, many public workers including first responders will need to work 35 years to qualify for full retirement benefits, five years longer than the standard
None of this is law yet.
The research and proposals are recommendations only and any permanent changes would have to go through the state legislature.
