The broad area of low pressure associated with a tropical wave continues to produce a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the tropical central Atlantic.

Conditions appear generally favorable for gradual development of this system and a tropical depression is likely to form within the next few days while it moves quickly west-northwestward across the central tropical Atlantic. The wave will approach the northern Leeward Islands later this week.

Models show the potential for development late Wednesday or Thursday, while keeping the system over the Atlantic waters.

The formation chance through 48 hours is up to 50 percent and the formation chance through 7 days is 70 percent.
