Confirmed Social Security payment schedule for 2026
If you receive benefits from the Social Security Administration (SSA), here’s what to expect in 2026 in terms of when your payment will land in your bank account.
For most retirees, disability or survivor benefit recipients, the date you receive your payment in a given month depends on your birth-date:
- If your birthday falls between the 1st and the 10th of the month, you will receive your payment on the second Wednesday of that month.
- If your birthday falls between the 11th and the 20th, expect your payment on the third Wednesday.
- If your birthday falls between the 21st and the 31st, you will receive your payment on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
But beware, as there are a few important exceptions:
- If you began receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997, your benefit is paid on the third day of each month.
- If you receive both Social Security benefits and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), then typically your Social Security payment follows the “third of the month” rule, and the SSI payment arrives on the first of the month.

To give you a clear picture: for January 2026, payments would arrive roughly as follows:
- If your birthday falls between 1–10: payment on Wednesday 14 January.
- If 11–20: payment on Wednesday 21 January.
- If 21–31: payment on Wednesday 28 January.
Each subsequent month in 2026 follows the same pattern: second Wednesday, third Wednesday or fourth Wednesday respectively for the three birthday-ranges.
By knowing which week of each month your payment is due, you can better manage your bills and spending in the ever-tightening economy. It’s a simple system that thankfully helps bring a bit more predictability, and therefore breathability, to your finances.
