Has the RBA cut interest rates too hard and too fast?
On February 18 this year, I happened to bump into a former Reserve Bank of Australia governor on the street in Sydney. This wasn’t just any other morning.
The financial markets were betting and Treasurer Jim Chalmers was supremely confident that the RBA was primed to cut the 4.35 per cent cash rate at 2.30pm that day, on the cusp of Labor Prime Minister Anthony Albanese calling a federal election.
