Dow Builds on Record High as Futures Rise
The S&P 500 wavered shortly after the market opened, but the blue-chip index was back in striking distance of a closing high.
The market benchmark was up 0.2%, which would put it a touch above its Jan. 27 record close of 6,979.83. The Nasdaq Composite was up 0.1%.
The Dow was up 340 points, or 0.7%. It finished the prior two sessions with closing highs, so any gain would be a fresh milestone.
A majority of stocks in the S&P 500 were rising, but struggles among communication services stocks like Alphabet were dragging on the index. The Invesco S&P 500 Equal Weight ETF, which counts every S&P 500 stock the same, was up 0.4%.
