Live updates: Pirro drops Federal Reserve probe, making path for Warsh confirmation
U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro said Friday morning that her office would drop its investigation into the Federal Reserve and Chair Jerome Powell over its costly headquarters renovations. That move should open a path for the confirmation of Powell’s expected successor, Kevin Warsh.
She said her office instead asked the Fed’s inspector general “to scrutinize the building costs overruns – in the billions of dollars – that have been borne by taxpayers.”
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Gen. Dan Caine gave a brief update on the war in Iran first thing on Friday, three days after President Trump indefinitely extended a ceasefire.
Hegseth said 34 Iranian ships have been turned around since the naval blockade took effect. And he did not deny The Washington Post report that it could take six months for the U.S. military to clear the Strait of Hormuz of mines laid by the Iranian military.

The fight between the countries has turned into a tit-for-tat of gunboat diplomacy with a double blockade.
Trump on Friday will travel to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, where he’ll attend the Republican National Committee’s spring retreat.
