BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood opens up on retirement plans
BBC Breakfast weather presenter Carol Kirkwood, who has also achieved success as a bestselling author, has discussed her future retirement plans. The 63-year-old has established herself as a beloved figure on the morning programme and regularly engages with followers through social media.
During a recent interview, Carol was questioned about whether she intends to step back from television in the near future, and fortunately for viewers, the BBC Breakfast favourite revealed her passion for the role remains strong, reports the Express. Responding to questions about retirement, Carol said: “Don’t say that; you’ll get me sacked! And I love my job; I can’t imagine not doing it.”
Speaking told the Radio Times: “There will be a day, obviously, when that happens, but for now I still love the weather. Each day is different, you know?”.

She continued: “We’re an island, and the weather changes all the time, so it’s always interesting.”
Carol also addressed the stream of online harassment she encounters, explaining that she remains unbothered by critics’ opinions. She continued: “I’m just doing my job to the best of my ability and hopefully improving myself on a daily basis, whether people think I’m capable or not. Titles don’t really matter.”
This marks another occasion where Carol has discussed facing online trolling. During a previous conversation, Carol noted that trolls tend to “get personal”. Speaking to The Herald in 2014, she said: “They’re being personal, but they don’t actually know you, so you let it go.
“When someone says, ‘I’ve seen that dress seven times in the last month, stop wearing it,’ you think, ‘You wouldn’t say that to somebody in the office’. But you take it on the chin,” she continued.
The complete interview will be available in the forthcoming edition of RadioTimes. BBC Breakfast is broadcast every day from 6am on BBC One.
