Both Goods and Services Inflation Prove Benign
Inflation for both goods and services categories proved softer in September, despite ongoing worries about the effects of higher tariffs.
The index for commodities (excluding food and energy commodities) rose 0.2% month over month in September, a slowdown from the 0.3% pace in August.
Within goods, vehicle prices eased. New vehicle prices were up just 0.2% on the month, compared to the 0.3% rate logged in August. But used cars and trucks actually posted an outright monthly decline of 0.4% in September. That’s a substantial slowdown from the 1% monthly gain in August.
