The Kansas City Chiefs are bringing Eric Bieniemy back to be their offensive coordinator.

It’s a major move in general, because Bieniemy never had an offense worse than sixth in the NFL in points scored in his previous stint as K.C.’s OC. But it could be even bigger if it changes Travis Kelce’s retirement plans.
To be fair, no one actually knows what Kelce is planning to do after completing his age-36 season. Maybe his wife-to-be Taylor Swift knows, or maybe his mother Donna knows, or maybe his brother Jason knows. But none of us know.
Travis might not even know yet.

Kelce, on the latest episode of his New Heights podcast, was very excited about the hiring.
“I can’t wait to see [Bieniemy] back in the building, man,” Kelce said. “He’s one of my favorite coaches of all time. One of my favorite people of all time. I’ve had so many unbelievable growing moments under him as a player, as a person. I just love the guy and it’s going to be awesome to see him back in the building and see him back wearing the Chiefs logo, baby.”

Kelce can’t wait to see him back in the building sounds like a player who is coming back.
The last sentence sounds slightly more passive, like Kelce will be happy to watch him from afar.
Latch onto whichever portion of that sentiment you want.
There’s still time for Kelce to decide what he’s doing, but the Chiefs’ hiring of Bieniemy can’t hurt the cause of getting the legendary tight end back for one more go at it.
