Dow tops 44,000 for first time as it looks to close out best week in a year
The Dow Jones Industrial Average has just reached a milestone of its own as investors wait to see whether the S&P 500 will top 6,000 for the first time.
The blue-chip gauge climbed above 44,000 for the first time ever in recent trade, according to FactSet data, as it looked to close out its best week in more than a year. The Dow’s 4.7% percentage point weekly gain would be its best since Nov. 3, 2023 data show.
This latest accomplishment comes just 19 trading days after it crossed 43,000 for the first time, according to Dow Jones Market Data.
Assuming the Dow finishes above 44,000, it would mark the 7th 1,000-point milestone for the blue-chip average this year. The Dow closed above 40,000 for the first time ever back in May.
