Federal Reserve governor rejects Trump's calls to resign over mortgage fraud allegations
Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook on Wednesday rejected President Donald Trump’s call for her to resign her post over allegations that she may have committed mortgage fraud before she took her place on the Federal Reserve Board.
Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte notified Attorney General Pam Bondi earlier this month that Cook allegedly “falsified bank documents and property records to acquire more favorable loan terms, potentially committing mortgage fraud.”
Trump posted on Truth Social that Cook “must resign,” over the scandal. Pulte claimed Cook had listed two residences as her primary, and the second place was listed as a primary residence weeks after she took out a loan on her Michigan home.
“I have no intention of being bullied to step down from my position because of some questions raised in a tweet,” Cook told NewsNation. “I do intend to take any questions about my financial history seriously as a member of the Federal Reserve and so I am gathering the accurate information to answer any legitimate questions and provide the facts.”
Alleged mortgage fraud has become a focal point for Department of Justice inquiries into Democratic officials, with California Sen. Adam Schiff and New York Attorney General Letitia James both facing scrutiny over their purchases.
