Find out who’s receiving a Social Security payment on Monday, March 3: Check if you’re on the list
Some recipients of Social Security benefits in the United States will be getting their next monthly check this Monday, as the Social Security Administration (SSA) embarks on its schedule of payments for March 2025.
Who receives Social Security benefits in the U.S.?
Each month, the SSA distributes Social Security benefits to retired workers, disabled workers and surviving family members of deceased workers.
Americans fund the benefits that they or their relatives receive by paying Social Security taxes during their working life.
The agency also operates a program known as Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which is aimed at Americans who have little or no income and are over 65 or have a disability.
The SSI program differs from regular Social Security benefits as it is needs-based rather than contribution-based. It is not dependent on payment of Social Security taxes.
So who is getting their Social Security check on March 3?
On Monday, March 3, the SSA is scheduled to make retirement, disability and survivors’ payments to beneficiaries who began receiving their money before May 1997.
In addition, any Americans who receive both SSI and regular Social Security will be paid the latter on March 3 (having already been paid the former on Friday, February 28).

When do the remaining Social Security checks go out in March 2025?
Most non-SSI recipients of Social Security money will be paid on one of three Wednesdays. This is as part of a staggered schedule by which a beneficiary’s payment date is decided by their date of birth.
In March 2025, the Wednesday payment schedule will be as follows:
Wednesday, March 12: Beneficiaries born on 1st to 10th of the month
Wednesday, March 19: Beneficiaries born on 11th to 20th of the month
Wednesday, March 26: Beneficiaries born on 21st to 31st of the month
You can check out the SSA’s full payment schedule for 2025 on the agency’s website.
How much do Social Security recipients get in the U.S.?
Retired workers, who as of January 2025 made up just over 70% of the 73 million Social Security beneficiaries in the U.S., receive an average payment of $1,978 per month, according to the SSA.
Disabled workers are paid $1,580 a month on average, the SSA says, with the surviving family members of deceased workers receiving $1,546 a month on average.
The SSA lists the average SSI payment as $714 per month.
