FIRST ALERT FORECAST: Showers, storms around Friday with the approach of Invest 93-L
LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Showers and storms are likely Friday in association with Invest 93-L before rain chances drop a bit over the weekend.
As we start the day Friday, there will likely be a good coverage of showers and thunderstorms going on in the morning. This means it will be a good idea to have the umbrella handy to start the day. Showers and storms could continue into the early afternoon, with rain expected to break up as we head after that.
With some thunderstorms and tropical air in place, some locally heavy rain is expected. Rainfall totals will depend on how quickly individual cells move. For most, this still looks like a manageable rain event with some spots possibly not even seeing half an inch of rain. But like a typical summer day, any storms that move slow could easily drop a few inches of rain or more in a short amount of time. That is how some localized flooding issues could still arise.
For now, a general 1-4” of rain will remain possible with some totals both below and above that possible. Most of the rain comes as we head into our Friday and then will slowly become more scattered as we head into our Saturday morning.
The weekend won’t be a total washout with scattered storms expected Saturday. Outdoor plans should still be able to go on unless they depend on having no rain around. Just be sure to have a way to head indoors quickly as is always a good idea during summer. And rain looks even more limited on Sunday.
Temperatures will begin to warm as we head through early next week as we will return to the lower and middle 90s by Monday. More sunshine will be in the mix as we head into early next week allowing us to dry out nicely!
With that said, better rain and storm chances look to arrive late next week with another weak system moving into the region. We still have plenty of time to watch as it gets closer.
